Send an anonymous text to a Spanish mobile
Ghost delivers your text to any mobile in Spain without showing your number. A standard text costs 1 credit ($0.20), there is no subscription, and you can send it from a browser on any phone or computer. Spanish accents decide the cost: ñ and ¿ are free, but á, í, ó and ú are not.
What a text to Spain costs
One SMS segment to a Spanish mobile costs 1 credit ($0.20). A segment holds 160 characters of plain text, and texts to Spain start with “GHOST:”, which counts toward that. ñ, é, ü, ¿ and ¡ are in the basic SMS alphabet, and so is the € sign, which counts as two characters. The other accented vowels, á, í, ó and ú, are not, and neither is the º in addresses like 2ºB: one of them switches the whole text to 70-character segments.
| Text | Characters | Encoding | Segments | Cost |

| A longer message | 282 characters | GSM-7 | 2 segments | 2 credits ($0.40) |
| Spanish, with á | 103 characters | UCS-2 | 2 segments | 2 credits ($0.40) |
| Spanish, with ó and º | 100 characters | UCS-2 | 2 segments | 2 credits ($0.40) |

How to type a Spanish mobile number
Written locally
6xx xxx xxx
Type in Ghost
+34 6xx xxx xxx
- Open Ghost in your browser or the Android app.
- Choose Spain (+34) in the country list and type the mobile number.
- Write your text, check the credits shown under it, and send.
Choose Spain and type all nine digits as they are written: Spanish numbers have no 0 at the front to drop. Mobiles start with 6, or with 71 to 74. Numbers starting 70 are personal numbers, not mobiles. If you copy a number written with +34 or 0034, type only the nine digits that follow.
What the person in Spain sees
- The text arrives as an ordinary SMS from a Ghost mobile number. Your own number is not shown anywhere in it.
- It starts with “GHOST:”, so they can tell it came through Ghost. Nothing in it says who you are unless you write it.
- Spanish networks must block texts that arrive from abroad showing a Spanish number, unless the phone is roaming, and from 15 September 2026 texts with a sender name missing from the national register. Both rules target faked senders. A Ghost text comes from a mobile number, not a sender name.
- Replying from their messages app does not reach you. If you want an answer, switch on a Reply Link: they open it in a browser and send you one reply, still without seeing your number.
- Anyone who would rather not get Ghost texts can block them on the stop page. Ghost will not send to a number on that list.
Writing a text for Spain
Most texts in Spain are in Spanish, and Catalan, Galician and Basque are also official in their own regions. The accents decide whether a text fits in one segment.
Spanish, with á
Hola, ¿sigue disponible la bici? Puedo pasar el sábado por la mañana y pagarte 80 € en efectivo.UCS-2, 103 characters, 2 segments: 2 credits ($0.40)
Switched to UCS-2 by: á
The á in sábado is outside the basic SMS alphabet, so this text goes out in 70-character segments and needs two. The ñ and ¿ are in the basic alphabet: with lunes instead of sábado, it would fit in one.
Spanish, with ó and º
Perdona, creo que el paquete del 2ºB lo dejaron en mi buzón por error. Te lo subo esta tarde.UCS-2, 100 characters, 2 segments: 2 credits ($0.40)
Switched to UCS-2 by: º ó
Both the º in 2ºB and the ó in buzón are outside the basic alphabet, so this short note needs two segments. Written as 2B and buzon, a text this length fits in one.
Catalan
Hola, el pis encara està disponible? Podria venir a veure'l dijous a la tarda.GSM-7, 85 characters, 1 segment: 1 credit ($0.20)
Catalan à, è and ò are in the basic alphabet, so this text stays at 160 characters a segment. í, ó, ú, ç, ï and the middle dot in l·l would switch it to 70.
When people in Spain keep their number private
Second-hand deals on Wallapop or Milanuncios
Buying on Wallapop or on Milanuncios, one of Spain’s largest classifieds sites, means arranging a handover with someone you have never met. Text the seller through Ghost to agree the price and a meeting point, and give your own number only once you are happy to.
Renting a flat or a room
Asking about a flat or a room listed on idealista or Fotocasa means contacting landlords and agents you don’t know. With Ghost you can ask about the deposit (fianza), the bills or a viewing first, without giving your mobile number to every advertiser.
A note to a neighbour
Telling a neighbour that their parcel was left in your letterbox is easier without starting a thread on your own phone. Keep it polite: Spanish law cares about what you write and how insistently, not about the number being hidden.
Spanish law on anonymous texts
Sending a text without showing your number is not an offence in itself. What you write and how often matters: insistently and repeatedly contacting someone by any means of communication in a way that disrupts their daily life is harassment (acoso) under article 172 ter of the Código Penal. Threats are covered by articles 169 to 171, with a heavier penalty under article 169 when they are made by phone or any means of communication, and serious insults (injurias) by article 208. Advertising texts need the recipient’s prior consent under article 21 of the LSSI (Ley 34/2002).
Got a text you did not want?
If a text looks like a scam, call 017, the free and confidential cybersecurity helpline run by INCIBE (also on WhatsApp at 900 116 117), or report it to INCIBE-CERT through its online form. Crimes can be reported to the Policía Nacional, the Guardia Civil, the Ertzaintza or the Mossos d’Esquadra. To stop texts sent through Ghost, add your number on the stop page.
Questions and answers
A text of up to 160 plain characters costs 1 credit ($0.20), including the “GHOST:” at the start. Longer texts are charged per segment, and an á, í, ó or ú, an emoji or a curly apostrophe shortens each segment to 70 characters. Ghost shows the cost before you send.
No. Spanish numbers have no 0 in front: choose Spain and type the nine digits as written. Mobile numbers start with 6 or with 71 to 74.
Not by replying in their messages app. Add a Reply Link when you send, and they can open it in a browser and send you one reply without seeing your number.
Hiding your number is not an offence in itself. Harassing someone with insistent messages, threatening them or seriously insulting them is, under the Código Penal, whether or not your number shows.
