PRIVACY COMMITMENT
Why Ghost Doesn't Sell Your Data
A plain-English summary of our privacy practices: what we collect, how long we keep it, who can see it, and what number masking does and doesn't hide.
This page summarizes our Privacy Policy, which is the full legal document. Where the two differ, the Privacy Policy applies.
We do not sell your data
Ghost's revenue comes from credits: you pay for the messages you send. There is no advertising business and no reason to sell, license or share your personal information with data brokers or advertisers.
Recipients never see your number
Your message is delivered from a protected sender ID, not from your phone number, and your number is never sent to the recipient's device. Texts to the US, Canada and Europe start with "GHOST:", which shows the service that carried the message but not who wrote it.
We keep what the service needs
That means the number you send to, the text of each message, when it was sent and whether it was delivered, plus your credit balance and purchases. Your sent messages appear in your message history, and you can delete any of them there.
Abuse checks and legal requests, not surveillance
Message records may be reviewed when someone reports abuse, and we respond to valid legal requests from law enforcement. We never share them with recipients or advertisers, and never beyond what the law requires.
Your data rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing info@elvento.com from the address on your account. Depending on where you live, these may also be legal rights, for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK.
No phone number needed to sign up
The browser version and the Android app both ask only for an email address and a password. You can send one free text at ghostsms.online/free with a promo code and no account at all.
What We Collect vs. What We Don't
What Ghost collects
- ✓ The phone number you send to
- ✓ The text of your message, its time and delivery status
- ✓ Your credit balance and purchase records
- ✓ Your email address, if you use the browser version
- ✓ A device identifier, to prevent abuse
What Ghost does NOT do
- ✗ Ask for your own phone number
- ✗ Show your number to recipients
- ✗ Share your data with advertisers
- ✗ Sell your information to data brokers
- ✗ Store your full card details
Who Can See What
Number masking hides your number from the person you text. It does not hide your activity from Ghost, from the networks that carry the message, or from lawful legal process. How number masking works
Everything you sent, in your message history, until you delete it.
Your message and Ghost's sender ID. Never your phone number, email address or account details.
Message records and metadata, reviewed only to run the service, investigate reports of abuse or answer valid legal requests.
The message as it passes through their networks. SMS is not end-to-end encrypted, so treat it as you would any ordinary text.
Your payment details, handled by PayPal, Razorpay or Google Play. Ghost never sees your full card number.
How Long We Keep It, and Your Choices
Sent messages stay in your message history until you delete them or delete your account. Open a message and choose Delete from history to remove it. To have all your data deleted, email info@elvento.com. Purchase records are kept for as long as accounting and tax rules require.
Our website uses analytics to count visits and measure page speed. Like any SMS, a Ghost text is not end-to-end encrypted, so keep passwords, codes and other secrets out of it.
Received a Text From Ghost?
Your number was typed in by the person who texted you. Ghost doesn't sell it or use it for marketing. To stop all texts from Ghost, add your number at ghostsms.online/stop, and no Ghost user will be able to text it again. To report a harassing or abusive message, email abuse@ghostsms.online with the message and the time you received it.
