How Number Masking Works

You type your message in Ghost
Open Ghost in your browser or the Android app, enter the recipient's number and write your message. The browser version needs an email address and password; neither version asks for your phone number.
Ghost routes it through secure servers
Your message is forwarded from Ghost's infrastructure — not from your carrier or your number. The routing strips all identifying information about your device and SIM.
Recipient gets your message, not your number
The SMS arrives at the recipient's phone from a protected sender ID. If you added a Reply Link they can answer through it, but your real number never appears on their device or phone bill.

How does number masking work?
When you send a message through Ghost, it routes through our secure servers and is delivered with a protected sender ID. Your carrier, device, and real number are never transmitted to the recipient. The masking happens at the server level — there's nothing to configure on your end.
Can recipients reply to my Ghost messages?
Yes, if you turn on Reply Link when you send. Ghost adds a short link to your text; the recipient opens it and writes one reply, which arrives on your phone as a normal text without them seeing your number. Each link takes one reply within 7 days and costs 3 credits plus the cost of the reply. Replying to the text itself does not reach you.
Does Ghost work internationally?
Yes. Ghost supports sending messages to phone numbers in 100+ countries worldwide. International delivery may use more credits than domestic messages due to carrier costs. Check the rates screen, in your browser or in the app, for per-country pricing.
Do I need to create an account?
No account is required to try Ghost: with a promo code you can send a free anonymous SMS at ghostsms.online/free. To send regularly from your browser you create an account with an email address and a password. No phone number is needed. The Android app on Google Play asks for the same: an email address and a password.
Is it legal to send anonymous SMS messages?
Sending private messages is legal in most jurisdictions for legitimate purposes such as protecting privacy when selling online, professional feedback, or personal safety. Using Ghost for harassment, threats, fraud, or any illegal activity is strictly prohibited and may result in account termination and cooperation with law enforcement.
Can I schedule messages in advance?
Yes, in the web app. Compose your message, choose Schedule, and pick a date, a time and a time zone, and Ghost sends it automatically at that moment. You can edit or cancel it until it goes out. This is useful for business follow-ups, reminders, and time-sensitive communications. The Android app sends messages immediately.
